What are thunderstorms and tornadoes?

A tornado is a violent storm with very powerful winds. Rotating winds form a column that stretches from the clouds to the ground causing damage to anything in its path. The winds of a tornado may reach up to 300 miles per hour!

Thunderstorms are violent, but short lived, storms that contain strong winds, thunder, lightning, thick clouds, rain, and/or hail. Thunderstorms are very common.
